An alternative  5k course was implemented in 2004 due to the construction of PaeTech Park, the  home of the Rochester Ragin' Rhinos Soccer Club north of the Brown's Square neighborhood. Due to the ongoing construction, this USATF certified course (NY04021KL) will once again be used this year. It is certified to be accurate by the USATF and is mainly flat and fast, starting near the corner of Oak and Brown Streets and making two loops around  the historic Brown's Square neighborhood, with a finish inside Frontier Field at home plate.

The route is described more fully as follows-

Start: The Race begins on Oak Street just north of Brown Street. Runners will proceed south on Oak St to Morrie Silver Way, where they will make a left. Take Morrie Silver Way east and make a left on N. Plymouth Avenue. Take N. Plymouth Avenue north to Smith Street. Take a left on Smith Street. Take Smith Street to Oak Street. Take a left on Oak Street. Take Oak Street to Jay Street. Take a left on Jay Street (ONE MILE MARK HERE) and then a right on Brown Street back to the start area. Repeat the loop again with the 2 MILE MARK  at the corner of N. Plymouth and Smith Street. At the completion of the second loop, runners will proceed South on Oak Street and into the Frontier Field Parking Lot. Continue across the parking lot and into the field through the back gate.  You will come out on the field on the cinder outfield warning track.  Continue around the outfield track on the track to the third base line and tune and run to finish at home plate.

Finish: Down the 3rd base line and cross the finish line at home plate.

The 3k Fitness Walk is one loop (the first loop) through historic Brown's Square Park with a finish in Frontier Field at home plate

This year, each entrant in the Medved 5k to Cure ALS will be feature computerized results by PCR Timing Service, Inc. using their the unique DAG System.

The DAG System is widely used in Europe and is the first disposable chip system to be used in the United States. PCR Timing, Inc was only the second US timing company to hop on board, and already it is revolutionizing the way races are timed.

Here's how it works: the chip is attached to the back of the runner’s bib and the time is recorded automatically by the computer when the runner crosses under an antenna at the finish line. With this system, all results are 100% computerized, automating everything and eliminating any chance of missed data. With the DAG System, up-to-the-minute results can be provided while the race is in progress
