GVH Well Represented at Buffalo 5K XC Championship

By Coach Mike Reif

What an amazing group of Men and Women athletes GVH had in Buffalo yesterday for National and Regional Cross Country Championship races: Our Open Men (ages 18-39) won the USATF-Niagara Association 5k XC Championship with great performances. Brennan Root led the team with a third-place finish and Omar Boulama was spectacular by being our 4th runner after having run a 1 hr. 10 minute half marathon in Rochester an hour and a half earlier. What a great team effort (Thank you, Brain Michael, our escort driver supreme. Our Open Women put a team together at the last minute despite injuries, prior commitments, etc and took 2nd place team honors. Next was the USATF National Masters 5k XC championships with virtually every age group team making the podium. Three first-place national championship teams: Men 40-49, Men 60-69, Women 60-69. Two Runner-Up teams: Women 40-49, Men 50-59 and two third-place teams: Women 50-59, Men 70-79. Two National Individual Age Group Champions were crowned: Al Evans (M55-59) and Frank Gioia (M65-69). three-second place finishers: Heather Swarts Webster (W40-44), Sharon Moore (W60-64) and Cindy Ingalls W65-69). Third place finishers included: Caroline Bucci (W45-49). GVH was the most dominant team of the day and the momentum continues to build. Thanks to all the team Captains, our sponsors and supporters. Lots more to come this year.
