2017 USATF Club XC Championship, Lexington, Kentucky, December 9, 2017

By Dave Bischoff, President, GVH

Congratulations to the incredible GVH team that competed at the recent 2017 USATF Club XC Championship. With over 60 athletes across all age groups representing, GVH was the largest team in attendance! Special congrats to our 70+ Men’s team that reached the podium once again (3rd Place). Tony Gingello, Keith Yeates, Jim May, Jim Glinsky and Tom Lamme have now hit the podium every time they’ve run! Many of our other age group teams just missed the podium as well despite some difficult injury issues across the ranks. The day closed with stellar performances by the Open Women and Men. The Open Women finished a club-high 15th place overall, led by Kathryn Potter. She ran a club record 21:15 for the 6K XC. She was followed closely by Ashley Nevol, Danielle Groff, Donna Langerfeld, and Danae Polsin. The first three all ran under the previous club record time set by Danielle a few years ago at San Francisco (21:45). The men were led by another team record time of 30:53 for the 10K XC by Chad Maloy, surpassing the 31:01 laid down at Lehigh in 2014 by Patrick Geoghegan. He was followed closely by Brennan Root and backed up strongly by Tyler Eustance, Robert Hurlbut, Matt Pierce, Mike Anvelt, Brian Hotchkiss and Sean Cooke. The top 5 were all under 33:40. All in all, it was a great cap to another remarkable season for the club. Well done!
