USATF Masters 10K Championships, Dedham, MA, April 30, 2017

On April 30, 2017 in Dedham, Massachusettes, 29 Genesee Valley Harriers competed in the Masters 10 Championships.

Most notably, GVH came in first place out of 7 teams in the Women’s 40+ category (Heather Webster, Wakenda Tyler, and Tracey Vannatta), and first place out of 6 teams in the Men’s 70+ category (Tony Gingello, Liam, Finnigan, and Jim May.) (Ultra Vet Team Member Jim Glinsky was recovering from back surgery.)

The Champions Podium is getting to be a familiar spot for the newly formed GVH Ultra-Vets (70-79) Team.
Last October, Jim May, Captain Jim Glinsky, and Liam Finnigan took 1st Place at the National 5K Road Championships in Syracuse. In December, Seattle’s Patrick Dwyer joined the team to help them to 3rd at the National 8K Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee.
And on April 30 in Dedham Mass., new Ultra runner Tony Gingello won the division, leading the team to another 1st place National finish at the 10K distance.

Dedham’s race is challenging, with many hills and turns. However, Tony ran a great race, outsprinting last year’s champ, Paul Carlin for the win, in 44:55. Steady and solid, Liam followed in 48:13. Jim May, who had beaten Carlin for the win at the National 8K in Virginia Beach in March, was hampered by a severe Achilles injury, but managed to finish in 48:20. As Coach has taught us, it’s all about teamwork & everyone plays their part.
Paul Carlin’s comment to Gingello & May after the race – “What do you guys put in that Genesee Beer in Rochester?”

The Women’s 40+ team managed to come out at the top of the podium despite Team Captain Missy Senall being unable to run due to a foot injury. The Women squeaked by a small team from the South known as the Atlanta Track Club by 19 seconds. Heather Webster ran a 38:34 and place 3rd in the 40-44-year-old age group and was age graded at 82.69%! Wakenda Tyler placed 6th in that same age group at 40:46, and Tracey Vannatta (a GVH new-comer) placed 5th in the 45-49-year-old age group with a time of 44:04.

Other notable finishes included the Men’s 50+ category with GVH-A (Mike Nier, Alan Evans, Dale Flanders, John Van Kerkhove, and Theodor Schnaufer) coming in 2nd of 7 teams. GVH-B (Michael Gardella, Timothy Riccardi, and Venelin Tchamov) came in 5th place ahead of the Boston Athletic Association and Greater Lowell Road Runners.

In the Men’s 60+ category, GVH (Gary Radford, Kevin Clinefelter, Bill Beyerbach, Mith Moore, and Coach Mike Reif) came in third out of five teams.

In the Women’s 50+ category, GVH’s “fit, fast, and fearless” Kathleen Hayden, Carol Bishoff, Bonnie Lindblom, and Colleen Magnussen came in third out of seven teams.

GVH 60+ women (Sharon Moore, Cindy Ingalls, and Jeanne Herrick) came in second place against the Atlanta Track Club.

GVH’s Men’s 40+ Team (Josh Harter, Tim Rieth, and Tim Reetz) came in 7th out of a large field of 12 teams.

Congratulations and thank you to all GVH members that represented the club so well in Dedham.
