Inhospitable weather greeted runners at the start of this year’s Lilac 10K Race with a temperature of 41 degrees, 20 mph winds with gusts to 28 mph—all equating to a cold wind chill factor of 32 degrees. Fortunately, it didn’t snow or rain….

Despite the nasty conditions, GVH runners and teams ruled the Lilac 10K.

Omar Boulama and Tim Chichester led the way for everyone by finishing 1-2 in 30:55 and 31:15 respectively and winning the lion’s share of prize money. Heather Webster won the Women’s Masters overall prize. Kathryn Potter and Ashley Nevol took 4th and 5th respectively in the Open Women’s race with great times in a tough field. Josh Harter gave a great performance despite injury and helped the young guys take a second place team finish. Many others of the walking wounded gave great efforts to support their teams.

We had seven individuals win USATF-Niagara Age Group Championships:  Omar Boulama, Joe Mora, Mark Rybinski, Tony Gingello, Heather Webster, Audra Naujokas-Knapp, and Marie White. Gary Redford took 7th overall in the 5K with a nice 19:14, winning his 55-59 age group while finishing ahead of almost all the younger guys. Andrea Meyer won the women’s 5K with a nice 20 minutes flat.

Our teams did great with our Open Women winning first place, Open Men taking second, Masters Women and Men winning along with the Super Vet Men winning top honors. Congratulations to all!

Thank you to team captains and member volunteers for your hard work in helping to make both the Lilac 10K and 5K successes. The runners and organizers appreciate your terrific help as does our GVH Club leadership.

Despite the cold weather on day of race and the inconvenience of giving up a few hours on a weekend our gang got out there a made it happen. We earned considerable dollars for the club through volunteer efforts while simultaneously had great performance by our members and teams. Your support and efforts are appreciated. Our team captains did a great job in getting the troops out, getting the team declarations submitted and motivating everyone to run their best.
